Holiday Shopping Tips & NYC Gazing!

Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas!

If you're one of the many of last minute shoppers like myself, I've gathered some tips to save more at checkout and to avoid overspending. Unfortunately, I'm an avid over spender because I'm always trying to make everyone happy and I use the holidays as the ultimate opportunity to gift everyone who showed me love throughout the year. Great in theory; yet horrible in application!

So I did a little research and here's what I'm forcing myself to do.

Click on the video below!

I go to 'higher end' stores like Pottery Barn & West Elm and scope out their tablescape and design. Then I go to more affordable stores like Home Goods and Pier 1 and I create my own Pottery Barn inspired look.

NYC is my muse!

Some more of Pottery Barn's display window.
Really?! An ATM...just what I needed. ;(

I have no tips on how to avoid over eating. The struggle is real guys. Sprinkles cupcakes in NYC a crack!

Ok back to the tips, I made a decision to walk away from items I really wanted that were not on my list and decided to sleep on it. I think common sense and reality kicks in once I stepped away from the item. This helps me avoid impulse shopping.

I always price match items on Red Laser and other apps that offer price matching. As mentioned in my video, you can also use the Retail Me Not app to score deals nearby. I also keep my rewards cards on me like Bloomingdale's Loyalist card.

Have a wonderful Christmas and a joyous New Year. May you experience Jesus' love in a precious way!

EShakti Holiday Dress : Product Review

had the pleasure of collaborating with eshakti.com on a dress for the holidays.

I tried something different from usual. This A-Line dress is not my signature dress but with my body changing post-baby I thought this dress might be a flattering change. I decided to add a belt to the dress to add a cimched waist look.

Be sure ro take a look at their collection online!

Blazing the Way w/ Blazers & Suits

I had the pleasure of teaming up with Bonobos for a fall inspired look book inspired by one of their hottest men's suits looks. I absolutely love wearing blazers and pairing a blazer with a fall outfit brings a crisp defined look to an array of looks especially distressed, ripped jeans- one of my favs.

I believe that a great suit adds an extra flair of confidence and if you don't want to do the whole look, a blazer is quick addition that'll create a polished look.

This white and black tuxedo look below was the inspiration to my look. I love how this suit creates such a uniformed and well-put together image. It's a great fall look that can continue right into the holiday and into the New Years- think New Years bash!

The Inspiration

I chose this tuxedo inspired blazer from Anarchy Street and panaled skinny pants for a black and off white timeless look.

Suited Up: How to Dress the Part
  •  Fit starts with the shoulders: The jacket should grab your shoulders snuggly but not be overly tight. If the shoulders fit, pretty much anything else can be adjusted.
  • Length matters: To determine the appropriate length, you should be able to cup the bottom of the suit with your arms by your side.
  • Show some shirt: A flexible but general rule of thumb is to have a quarter-inch of your shirt cuff showing. If you’re wearing a heavier cuff, like a French cuff, you may want to show a little more.
Thanks for reading and leave tips on how to find the perfect fit for blazers and suits!

Old Post: 10/1/2014 *UPLOAD ISSUES*

This is one of the reasons why I get so excited about fall; knee high boots, wool hats, leather everything and vests! Cheers to pumpkin lattes, earth tone colors, decorative fall flower pots and everything that makes our hearts smile when thinking of autumn.

My Weekend & Family Love

Delayed Post: 9/27/2014

I had a really nice weekend! Surrounded by my loved ones all weekend long is all I need. Words can't express the love I have for my family- immediate and extended.

We celebrated life, love and togetherness despite somber news of the passing of my uncle. I'm cherishing every moment I have with my dear ones and making it my mission not to allow the petty things to be a distraction. Above all selfless love wins!

Have a peaceful, safe and successful week friends!

God loves you!

New York Fashion Week

It's always great attending NYFW;
the creativity and individuality is really taken to new heights. I had the chance to attend Georgine and interview fashion powerhouse Hal Rubenstein at the HSN suite.

I went to grad school, interned and worked in the Lincoln Center/ Columbus Circle area making it one of my favorite spots in NYC. I love seeing those areas concentrated by bloggers, photogs, hosts and a slew fashion industry people during FW.

Here are some shots from the shows and more:

At the HSN suite. They had makeover stations, giveaways and designer collections on display.

Kimora Lee and E Network stage

The fabulous goodie bag loaded with beauty products. I was so excited!

Lastly, what I came home to!

Weekend in Review: Summer Wrapup

Wow, I'm so amazed that I'm actually writing a 'Farewell Summer' post. This summer has been filled with precious memories to last a lifetime. It was my first summer with my precious baby Alyssa. I've been freelancing since I left my full time job and I couldn't have been happier that Kirk and I chose to go that route. As much as I love being a career woman, nothing fulfills me more than being at home with Alyssa. I know the time will come for me to return full-time, but I've been appreciating and enjoying every moment we spend at the park, at Buy Buy Baby, Starbucks, visiting family and at the nursery at church. Everyone always mentions how this time flies by and to enjoy it. Could you imagine that we'll be prepping for the holidays in 2 months?! Craze!

As a first time mommy, this summer of bonding with baby meant so much to me. I'm so grateful for it!

Here are a few latest pics:

In NYC doing some freelance work in prep for Fashion Week.

Walks in Montclair with Baby Alyssa. She absolutely loves being outside. She gets so quiet I forget how whiny she gets a home.

She's such a happy girl and an answered prayer. This is one of our backyard eat outs.

Late night cab rides from freelance work in the City. I love being in the City it just takes my creative levels to a serious high. Where do you love going to get your creativity brewing?

Alyssa in the nursery at church. I absolutely love seeing her interact with other babies. These baby girls are over 11 months and little Alyssa is only 7 months. She's so tall that you can hardly tell the difference.

Oh the struggle *sigh. I was killing it though. The whole fitness thing post baby has definitely not been a walk in the park. It's been a long process getting the weight off and I'm half way there. The good news is this is very normal for a large percentage of woman post-partum, particularly curvy woman.

What are you forever remembering this summer for? Also, Mom's how is it getting back in shape post delivery?

Thanks for reading and have a favorable week!

Summer Advantage: Outdoor Workouts

I absolutely love combining working out and the great outdoors. Being from the North I indulge in every beautiful sunny day knowing that these days are numbered.

The Lululemon Montclair location has some amazing complimentary workout classes on weekend mornings. They even hold outdoor yoga every so often. This Lululemon location is by far my fav. The women are so pleasant and helpful. Plus they offer the best group workout classes. I noticed a street Yoga class while on a Starbucks run and jumped right in baby in hand.

What's your favorite summer fitness routine? How do you keep it entertaining and avoid a fitness rut?
